The Board
For those of you who don't know me, I thought a brief letter would be proper. I'm Dale Taylor and was elected to serve as our president for 2002. I've been a pilot for many years, though a glider pilot for only 4 years. I really enjoy the club, the friends and the soaring. We have a great group of people, great resources and a great state to soar in! I'm hoping I can do my part to pay back to the club through service for all the wonderful times I've been able to share in the gliders and the friendships.

At the annual meeting in November, we discussed and voted on a new board. We didn't have anyone jumping up and down for the VP position, so even though Parke is planning on moving Q1 of 2002, we elected him as VP giving us a little time to work out a replacement. I served as Secretary last year and have kept extensive notes and observed how the club works. I don't have a secret agenda and I hope for solid input from those of you who've been around the block a few times. The depth of knowledge and understanding in the long time club members is something I hope to learn from.

I want to personally thank the last board, and the many board members and active club members who have helped over the years to form and guide this organization, thus making these wonderful resources available to us.

Please email me, dale@soarwest.com with ideas, comments and input. I look forward to a wonderful year of soaring and friendship. - Dale Taylor

The Gliders
Disassembly of the gliders this year went pretty smoothly. We had all three birds on their trailers and parked at the East corner in about four hours. Thanks go out to all who helped with that annual chore.

About the only equipment issue to report is that the 1-34's altimeter set-knob continues to suffer. So next year we've decided to swap the placement of the altimeter with one of the varios. This arrangement would put the altimeter (and it's knob) more toward the center of the panel. This area is less likely to be brushed during ingress or egress. The 1-34 has been reassembled up at Morgan in the hope of getting some late fall or early spring flying, though it's altimeter is currently in the shop.

The Board voted to continue the insurance on the 1-34 during the winter so that club members may trailer it to some place warm (or cold in the case of wave). Please contact a Board member to make arrangements.

The Membership
The club now stands at 17 regular and 19 associate members. We added one new regular member this year, Warren Stadler, and lost one regular member, Matt Zimmer. Glider purchases and sales moved 3 members to the associate list and 1 member to the regular list.
