Our soaring season continues to get off to a shaky start this year. The good news is that the instruments for the 1-34 have been received and installed. A radio has been mounted to the new panel as well. This week the panel should be installed and I expect that the 1-34 will be operational by this weekend (June 5). The not so good news is that the work on the 2-33 has not progressed. The fabric has been sewn on, and the silver base paint coat has been applied. However, Wayne Wilkerson has had some health problems and has not been able to finish the final painting. Wayne has done a lot of nice work for the club over the years and we are patiently waiting for his return to good health. A board meeting was held on May 19, and a discussion was started regarding alternatives for temporary 2-33 service. I would appreciate hearing from any and all individuals who want and or need to fly the 2-33 about their preferences. Specifically, would you be willing to fly Out of Morgan versus Heber? You can best reach me at home after 8 pm (582- 7802), or email me at parkito@aol.com. Hopefully, we will only need an alternative solution for a couple of weeks. We have several new members joining the club. First, Kory Branham has rejoined the club after being inactive for several years. Among other activities while away, Kory has been building an airplane, a RV-6 if I remember correctly. Next Jim Krog has joined as a regular member. Jim is an airline pilot with over 18,000 hours total air time. You may have seen him flying Soar Utahs 1-23 the last couple of years. And finally, Craig Thomas of CAP fame has also joined the club. In kind (or perhaps retaliation?). I have also joined the CAP. The primary reason for my signing up with the CAP is that they have a nice cadet program in which they get cadets air time in gliders. Senior members fly the cadets. Stan Misiewicz started doing this last year and has enjoyed it immensely. The local CAP outfit could use more glider pilots to help out with this program. A very nice aspect about this program is that the CAP picks up the tow costs. If you would like to know more about this CAP program, please give Craig Thomas a call (home phone 571-1144). Several more items from the board meeting: Our finances remain in good shape even with all the refurbishing work. Our estimate for the club funds is that we will not dip below $5,000 in the treasury after all the bills have been paid. David Lane reported that our web site is receiving about 1300 hits a week. Now, I know about three or four of those are from me, and a few others must be attributable to club members, but I think this is an excellent means of getting attention and disseminating information for the club for only $7.99 a month. Thanks David for the good work! And finally, we have set the date for the summer BBQ. It will be at Heber on June 19. As, we did last year the club will provide grilled items like hamburgers and hot dogs as well as drinks. We ask that each club member bring one dish to share. You can coordinate dishes with Matt Zimmer. Time to show off for the great cooks in the crowd. Also! Please remember that this is a great time to invite someone you know who is curious about soaring or the club. The BBQ is not limited to members only! The grill should be ready to go around 2:30 - 3 pm, and fired up til 7. Hopefully, the weather will be good and a brand spanking new 2-33 will be there for rides as well as the Grob. See you all up in Heber! - Parke Byron 67S DISCOUNT Dave Robinson has offerred to make 67S available to members at a 30% discount while 88S is out of service. This amounts to $16 per hour.
