ALL GLIDERS OPERATIONAL

All three of our ships have received their annual inspections and are available to fly. For those flying the 1-34 be certain that the nose stays on the ground when pushed down when you are seated in the glider. If the nose doesn’t stay on the ground you must carry enough ballast under the seat cushion to keep the nose on the ground.

    ANNUAL FLIGHT REVIEWS

An eligibility list has been taped to the door of our cabinet in the Soar Utah hangar. The names of some of those who have completed their reviews have been placed on the list. When you have completed your flight review enter your name and the appropriate information on the sheet. Your name on the list is your eligibility to fly association gliders.

    DUTY OFFICER SEMINAR HELD

The scheduled duty officer seminar was held last Saturday at Heber. The duty officer responsibilities listed in last month’s newsletter were discussed. Each glider was gone over in detail with the list of responsibilities in mind. The filling of oxygen tanks was discussed and demonstrated in detail. Checklists were requested for the various procedures such as filling oxygen tanks, charging batteries and doing the morning glider inspections. The checklists are being worked on and you can look for them to be posted on the association’s cabinet in the Soar Utah Hangar. Dave has set up a spot near our cabinet for charging batteries. You can look for a set of basic tools in a small toolbox in our cabinet for doing basic maintenance. There should be no need to borrow Dave’s tools. However, if you are tempted to use a tool other that those belonging to us please ask the owner.

    PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Well it has been a busy April. The ships have been assembled and inspected (annuals) and are ready to fly. We had a great turn out for the glider assembly day on April 18, with over fifteen current and prospective members showing up to work. With the great weather, a number of members have already taken their annual flight reviews. A lot of work went on behind the scenes to get the gliders ready. To acknowledge those efforts, I would like to thank Marc Emley for bringing the 1-34 up from Hurricane, Lee Steorts for doing a lot of the leg work in getting the gliders inspected (including trips to Morgan), and Lee and Fred Wright for working on the 1-34, getting it up to snuff. Also, thanks again to Fred for the nice job on the newsletter and the photographs. Our next board meeting is scheduled for May 14. If anyone has an issue to be reviewed by the board please bring it to the attention of a club officer. Soar Utah is currently operating (tows and lessons) on weekends, and will be open daily starting May 9. I hope I see to see you up at Heber soon!
