General Meeting a Success!

2003 Board Members

President Dale Taylor 801-785-8177 dale@soarwest.com
Vice President Tom Meecham 435-657-9590 tmeecham@msn.com
Secretary Dee Luker 801-566-2688 galuker@aol.com
Treasurer Jim Krog 801-553-8558 jdkrog@burgoyne.com
The 2002 General Meeting was held November 7th at Shang Hi Gardens and was attended by sixteen members holding seven proxies. This quorum voted on three issues:

1) Board of Directors (see table)
Dale and Jim have graciously returned as President and Treasurer respectively. Tom and Dee are new members from 2002 and will be coming in as Vice President and Secretary.

2) Club Gliders
We have decided to sell the club's 2-33 and replace it with a higher performance two seater when possible. The group's discussion centered on two replacement models, Grob and Lark, with the Grob carrying more proponents. We also discussed the possibility of keeping the new glider at Morgan all year long.

3) Glider Scheduling
A new "on-line" glider scheduling method will be implemented for 2003. Dave Robinson and Jay Thompson will no longer need to juggle our activities via the phone. This high tech replacement is at www.aircraftclubs.com under the "Club Calender" link and does offer a touch tone phone interface for the internet-disadvantaged.

From the Prez
Utah Soaring Association Members,

With the conclusion of this past year's annual meeting, I wish to thank everyone for their friendship and support. It was a busy year and the club went very well. I realize that as President, my assignment was to help organize and discuss things, working to resolve problems that come up and help temper all of this by learning of the past. The bulk of the work to run this club has been done quietly and very well by others. I personally want to thank this year's board for all of their efforts, and to single out Jim Krog for all of his work with the monthly mailings, deposits, bill paying and so forth. We had many volunteers who did a great job and it was a pleasure to get to know more people. As mentioned in the newsletter, I'll also be on the board this next year. I hoped to continue the work we started this year and didn't want to dump this on another mid-stream.

As the newsletter and minutes point out, we had a good turn-out and a nice discussion at the annual meeting. We voted to sell the 2-33 and work to purchase a 2nd 2-place glider. We hope to accomplish this by next spring. The debate continues concerning just which glider to purchase, where to keep it and other things, but the reality is this. Due to the continuing efforts of our members, we were able to save some cash and can work to improve our fleet. To this end I want to remind everyone of the importance involved in maintaining our gliders. They are ours, maintenance issues, broken parts, anything you notice needs to be brought up and taken care of quickly. We can't afford accidents or damage, especially due to neglect. We need to each realize we are equity partners in this club and treat our gliders appropriately. They are not car rentals where you drop them off at the end of the flight and wish them well as you walk away.

This next year, in addition to the sale and purchase issues, we will be making sure the gliders are well maintained and the work will continue to upgrade the O2 systems. It was discussed at the annual meeting and it seems most agree that we should each purchase and use our own cannulas rather than a shared system. We also decided to give online scheduling a try and I'm optimistic this will work well for us. We really all need to consider the costs to both the FBO and other members that occur when someone schedules a glider and doesn't show to fly it, and doesn't call to cancel either. We can implement scheduling rules and guidelines in the online system, but nothing can replace courtesy and respect for others in the use of the system.

It was a wonderful year, lets fly safely, take care of our equipment and continue to improve things. I look forward to sharing the skies again with you next year.

From the Trez
It's been a crazy two months for me. Anyone who leaves Park City for Draper must have a screw loose somewhere. But, that's what happened. Please note my new address and phone #: 14048 Pine Mesa Dr., Draper, Ut 84020. 801-553-8558. Please send your payments to the new address. Also, note your statements are for November and December. Both months dues are included. I have included the SSA dues as well on this statement. Sorry about the sticker shock. Call me if you have any questions about your statement. Great holidays to all.
